Abstract
555,406. Concrete beams. ABELES, P. W. March 13, 1940, No. 4714. [Class 20 (iv)] A reinforced concrete beam having interengaging transverse and longitudinal reinforcing members and made by centrifugal moulding is of substantially semicylindrical cross section and has a flattened upper surface provided with shoulders or recesses. In building a floor or ceiling, the lower edges of adjacent beams, which may be flanged, may be in contact or the spaces between them may be covered by slabs such as r. Slabs d may cover the cavities in the beams. On the upper side, the spaces between beams may be filled with concrete or covered by slabs. Extensions of the transverse reinforcing members or metal strips which engage the longitudinal members may be brought out at the lower part of the beam to provide an anchorage for covering slabs.
