Abstract

625,681. Reinforced-concrete; casting beams and walls in situ; floor slabs. JOHNSTON, P. L. G. July 12, 1946, No. 20957. [Classes 20(ii), 20(iv) and 87(i)] A reinforcing and/or shuttering material for use in building constructions of concrete or the like comprises sheet metal laths 1 having longitudinal edges 2 curled or bent to provide a recess 3 having re-entrant angles and secured at intervals to each other by twisted wire strands 4, the interval between the laths being such that the material may serve both as shuttering and as a reinforcement. When applied to the construction of beams or columns, Fig. 4, the material is bent round as shown, with the recesses 3 facing outwardly to receive the outer finishing surface. Additional reinforcing rods may be used and stirrups 6 may also be placed round the reinforcement. When used for making a wall the material is hung from an overhead beam or supported between side columns, the recesses 3 facing outwardly to form an efficient key for the final surface of the wall. Similarly when used as a reinforcement for a floor slab the recesses form the underneath surface and provide a key for the ceiling which is afterwards plastered thereon.
