Abstract
574,573. Girder floors. GIBSON, E., and FIDLER, W. June 8, 1943, No. 8657/45. Divided out of 573,821. [Class 20 (iv)] Relates to building constructions incorporating beams of the kind including a load carrying part and lateral flanges adapted to form, when the beams are laid side by side, a continuous floor or ceiling, or both, the flanges being discontinued at the ends of the beam where they rest on a support. According to the invention such beams 1 fit or key into the spaces 20 between lateral projections 18, 19 of facing blocks 17 forming the wall. The wall blocks shown, each have their projections arranged symmetrically about the mid line so that the blocks can be used either hand, as described in Specification 565,039. The beam ends 10 are supported by filling the block cavities on bearing courses with concrete. The beam has a hollow central body portion and upper and lower lateral flanges and is reinforced by upper and lower sets of reinforcing rods which are tied together at intervals by lateral reinforcements.
