Abstract
634,803. Air compressors. INGERSOLLRAND CO., and BAKER, C. S. June 16, 1947, No. 15807. [Class 8(i)] A two stage compressor system having means to unload the compressor on reaching a predetermined pressure in a reservoir and also when the compressor stops, comprises low pressure and high pressure cylinders 10, 11 with an inter-stage cooler B, delivering compressed gas to a receiver C. At a predetermined pressure in the receiver C a valve F operates a supply pressure gas to operate a piston 19 of an unloader valve D to cut off the intake to the cylinders 10. A valve G connected between the inlet and outlet of the intercooler 13 operates on cessation of gas flow in the intercooler to unload pressure in the intercooler and inlet manifold of the cylinder 11. A valve H in the high pressure inlet manifold is operated upon the reduction of pressure therein to hold open the inlet valve to the cylinder 11 and open the manifold to atmospheric pressure. When the compressor stops a valve K subjected to the pressure existing in the inlet manifold and the inlet to the intercooler B, connects pressure gas from the reservoir C to operate the unloader D. When the pressure in the reservoir C falls or when the compressor restarts the valves K, D, G, H operate slowly to unload the compressor.
