Abstract

633,742. Gas compressors. INGERSOLL RAND CO. June 23, 1947, No. 16556. Convention date, Oct. 12, 1944. [Class 8(i)] A compressed air supply system for supplying a tool 15, comprises a pump 10 driven by an internal combustion engine 11, the pump having an unloading valve 16 sensitive to the flow of compressed air to the tool 15 and the engine having a pressure sensitive speed regulator 12. The unloader valve 16 comprises a casing 115 having a cylindrical bore 17 containing a piston 18, the opposite faces communicating with an inlet pipe 14 and an outlet pipe 14a interconnected by a restricted opening 19 in the cylinder bore 17. A piston 21 attached to the piston 18 and operating in a cylinder 20 controls an exhaust port 22. A spring 25 biasses the pistons to open the port 20 when flow through the passage 19 ceases. The speed regulator 12 comprises a diaphragm piston subjected to pressure from the compressor through a pipe 34 and connected through linkage to the engine throttle valve.
