Abstract

[Class 110 (i)] In a multi-stage compressor or a number of compressors 14, 15 for supplying supercharged air to the cabin 11 of an aircraft, means are provided for switching the stages or compressors from parallel to series in accordance with changes in the operating conditions. When working in parallel, valve 20 in the pipe 18 connecting the delivery of 14 to the intake of 15 is closed, valve 21 in the delivery pipe 19 is open, and valve 23 in the intake pipe 22 of 15 is open, and when working in series the opposite arrangement obtains. The change-over of the valves may be controlled by a pneumatic pressure device 32 in the cabin adapted to close the switch 31 of an electric circuit comprising relays 26, 27 connected to the valves.
