Abstract
358,787. Centrifugal compressers. GUTEHOFFNUNGSHœTTE OBERHAUSEN AKT.-GES., Oberhausen, Rhineland, Germany. Nov. 29, 1930, No. 36058. Convention date, Nov. 29, 1929. [Class 110 (i).] To prevent surging in a centrifugal compresser, the latter is divided into two separate compressers a, b, of different nominal deliveries, an uninterrupted delivery range from above the surging limit of the small compresser to the maximum load being obtained by operating first with the small compresser a alone, then with the large compresser b alone, and finally with both together. The two compressers are fitted with non-return valves g in their delivery branches f and are put into and out of operation by flap-valves h arranged in the suction branches c. The valves h are actuated through linkwork by the cylinders i which themselves are operated, either automatically or by hand, by the regulating device k. The consumption of power, when either compresser is running with its suction branch closed, is reduced to a minimum by the provision of pipes l leading from the delivery branches to the cylinders i and adapted to be opened to atmosphere when the valves h are in closed position.
