Abstract

576,241. Pumps. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. (General Electric Co.). Jan. 23, 1945, No. 1859. [Class 7 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVI] In a super-charging system in which several exhaust - driven turbo - blowers receive their supply of exhaust gas and deliver their compressed charges in parallel, means is provided for automatically idling one of the blowers when the load is reduced to a predetermined low value ; operation of the blower at or near pulsasation point is thus avoided. As shown two blowers 6, 7 are fed by an exhaust conduit 5, having a waste gate valve 22, and deliver air to a carburetter 3, and a valve 25 in the delivery passage 12 of the blower having the higher pulsation point, is arranged to close before this point is reached. Connected with this valve is a valve 26 in the appropriate exhaust branch, the valve remaining open a sufficient amount to allow an idling supply of gas. A port 32 which is simultaneously opened by a valve 33 prevents pressure building up on the delivery side of the compressor.
