Abstract
1464787 Super-charged I C engines, controlling combustion air-pressure DR ING hcF PORSCHE AG 13 Dec 1974 [14 Dec 1973] 53922/74 Heading F1B A combustion air-pressure control in an I.C. engine having an exhaust-gas driven turbo-charger comprises a pressure conduit 10 which is at the same pressure as delivery conduit 8 from the charger blower 3, conduit 10 being connected via manually adjustable pressure regulator 20 to pressure actuated valve 13 which controls a system regulating the volume of exhaust gas acting on the turbine 4. Turbine 4 receives exhaust gas through conduit 5 which has an outlet to atmosphere controlled by valve 17. Air from compressor 3 is fed to intake passage 11 and to pipe 10 through which it acts in chamber 15 on one side of a diaphragm 18 which is mechanically connected to valve 17. The pressure of air in pipe 10 is reduced by adjustable regulator valve 20 and through pipe 19 acts on the other side of diaphragm 18 in the same direction as spring 16 which biasses the valve closed. When the pressure in pipe 10 exceeds the combined effect of spring 16 and the pressure in pipe 19, valve 17 opens and reduces the volume of exhaust gas fed to the turbine 4 so that its speed decreases. In a modification, Fig. 2, (not shown) chamber 14 is open to atmosphere, and an adjustable valve similar to valve 20 is inserted in the line 10.
