Abstract
634,426. Transformers. OLTHOF, M., and OLTHOF, T. (trading as TRANSFORMATORENFABRIEK FIRMA GEB. OLTHOF). Dec. 30, 1947, No. 34582. Convention date, Dec. 19, 1941. [Class 38 (ii)] In a welding transformer adapted to regulate the current thereof, a secondary winding is in three portions 2, 3, 4, the portion 3 being on a first limb of a core also carrying a primary winding 1, the portion 4 in series. with 3 and on an adjustable magmetic shunt 5, and the portion 2 in parallel with the portion 3, 4 and on a second limb of the core. The regulation of the secondary circuit current depends upon the position of the shunt 5 which may be rotated about a vertical axis. When the shunt 5 is in a closed position with the M.M.F.'s of the portions 3, 4 additive, the effect of the shunt 5 is greater and the portion 2 carries the greater part of the load current. When the shunt 5 is turned. through 180 degrees the M.M.F.'s of the portions 3, 4 are opposed and the effect of the shunt 5 disappears. The range of the current adjustment is increased and the drooping characteristic desirable for welding work is maintained, while the no-load voltage does not change.
