[Class 89 (iii)] [Also in Groups XXII, XXIII and XXXV] In a reciprocating tool motor, a hammering effect is obtained by blows imparted to a pole-piece of the electromagnet by an armature supported between springs, the pole-piece being integral with the tool or tool carrying member. As shown, the member f4 carrying the tool e4 and the coil g4 is supported on a spring n4 in such manner that it can slide in the framework t4. Each time the member f4 is lowered towards a shoe on the rotatable last v4 by means of the pedal y4 and rod q4 the coil is energized through contacts connected in an alternating or pulsating current circuit and blows are imparted to the tool by the vibrations of armature h4. In a modified device for hand support, the circuit is completed through two contact rings normally spring-urged apart but brought into contact when the device is pressed against the object to receive the nail.
