Abstract
741,536. Reciprocating motors. MACCHIONI, L. Nov. 11, 1953 [Nov. 12, 1952], No. 31290/53. Class 35. A reciprocating armature 5 of an electromagnetic vibrator is suspended by three springs 7, 8, 16, two of which, viz. 7, 8, are arranged to draw away the armature 5 from its attracted position while the third one acts as an adjustable spring to maintain the armature in resonance with the frequency of the supply. The armature 5 is carried by a U-shaped sheetmetal member 6, the extreme ends of which are supported by the springs 7, 8. These two springs rest at their lower ends on metal cups which are in turn supported by peripherally notched nuts 9, 10 respectively. The initial position of the armature 5 with respect to its stator 4 is adjusted by means of the nuts 9, 10 and these are then prevented from turning by resilient tongues 13 engaging the said notches. The action of the top spring 16 on the armature 5 is adjusted by means of a threaded hand wheel. The walls of the air gaps between the armature and stator may either be serrated as at 18, Fig. 1, or curved as in Fig. 4 (not shown). A casing 2 encloses the device so as to make it water-tight.
