Abstract

554,953. Converting. STEVENS, A. H. (Electronic Laboratories, Inc.). March 18, 1942, No. 3619. [Class 38 (ii)] In a system for converting D.C. into A.C. reeds 2, 3 carrying an armature 10 are vibrated by a self-interrupter consisting of an electromagnet 11 and interrupting contacts 16, 17 and the vibration of the reeds serves to charge a condenser 12 in series with the primary 13 of a transformer 14 or like device alternately in opposite directions from a D.C. source 18. This is achieved by means of contacts 4, 5 on the reeds which alternately engage contacts on opposite sides of them. The natural frequency of the reeds is preferably slightly different from the natural frequency of the oscillating circuit 12, 13 to prevent sparking. The transformer 14 may be replaced by an alternating current motor, Fig. 3 (not shown).
