Abstract
760,222. Converting. WALTER INSTRUMENTS, Ltd. Dec. 9, 1953 [Dec. 12, 1952], No. 31619/52. Class 38 (2). [Also in Group XXXVII] A vibrator (see Group XXXVII) having an operating coil 14 which vibrates a reed contact 16 to alternately engage a pair of contacts 19, 20 is employed in a system for obtaining A.C. from D.C. source 33, the contacts 19, 20 being connected through terminals 28, 29 across the ends of a resistor 31 and the reed 16 being connected through a terminal 30 to one end of the operating coil 14. On closure of the switch 32 the reed is attracted whereupon the contacts 16, 20 engage and the coil 14 is shortcircuited. The reed 16 thus springs back and engages contact 19 and the coil is re-energized to attract the armature again. The closure of contacts 16, 19 and 16, 20 also causes the shortcircuiting of the upper and lower parts, respectively, of the resistor 31, which in turn causes a momentary increase in the current in the corresponding half of the transformer primary 34 whereby an A.C. voltage having a frequency equal to the vibratory frequency of the reed is induced in the transformer secondary 36.
