Abstract

1,028,593. Protective arrangements. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. July 13, 1964 [Aug. 12, 1963], No. 28753/64. Heading H2H. A protective arrangement for a series transmission capacitor, or the distributed capacitance between the insulated interleaved windings on a transformer comprises a spark gap 32, 34 having a field from permanent magnets 42, 44 to extinguish the arc. The electrodes and magnets may be alternatively ring-shaped. An inductance 74 may be included to cause the discharge to be oscillatory. Constructional details of the spark gap are given in the Specification.
