Abstract

682,257. Transformers. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Dec. 15, 1950 [Dec. 23, 1949], No. 32924/49 Class 38 (ii) A high voltage transformer having an incomplete magnetic circuit is provided with electrically conductive potential shields which are connected to various points in the high voltage windings so as to direct capacity currents produced in the shields through the high voltage windings thereby to compensate for at least part of the lagging current taken to magnetize the core. A low voltage winding 3 is wound on a radial magnetic core 7 which has an incomplete magnetic circuit, the high voltage winding being wound in three sections 4, 5, 6 which are insulated from the low voltage winding by insulating members 11, 12, 13. Potential shields 15, 16 are placed between insulating members 11, 12 and 12, 13 and are connected to the junction of winding sections 4, 5 and 5, 6 respectively.
