Abstract
491,845. Transformers &c. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. (General ElectricCo.) March 2, 1937, No. 6225. [Class 38 (ii)] In order to reduce transient voltage gradients in inductive windings such as transformer and reactor windings, an electrostatic shield is arranged around a part of the winding adjacent the high voltage terminal and a further shield or shields is or are arranged around other parts of the winding, the first shield being connected to the high voltage terminal and the additional shields being each connected to a part of the winding under the adjacent shield nearer to the high voltage terminal. The shields may be in the form of a metallic strip, a conducting coating applied to an insulating former, or a non- inductive loop of conductor as shown in Fig. 5a. Each shield may be electrically continuous or it may comprise a series of conductive elements A, B, or C, Fig. 4a electrically connected together, the several series being electrically connected to the winding sections F as shown. Auxiliary shields D may be arranged around the shields A and connected to the shields B. The shields may be held in position on the windings by rods engaging spacers extending radially outwards from between the coil sections, Fig. 9 (not shown). Specifications 173,606, [Class 38 (ii)], and 350,520, are referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 402,084.
