[Class 38 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] The frequency of vibration of the reed 2 of an electromagnetic interrupter is controlled or slightly varied from its natural frequency by superimposing on the circuit of the electromagnet electrical impulse! of controlled frequency. The interrupter may be used to convert D.C. into A.C. which may, e.g. drive a synchronous motor the speed of which may thus be brought into absolute synchronism with some other apparatus. In the form shown, the magnet 9 which carries the current from the D.C. source through interrupter contacts 13 is also influenced by an alternating current from a transformer. In modifications, the superimposed impulses are delivered through the medium of a valve, Fig. 1 (not shown), or by induction, Fig. 4 (not shown).
