Abstract

630,909. Refrigerating; heating. SOC. ANON. DES ETABLISSEMENTS NEU. March 14, 1947, No. 7157. Convention date. March 16, 1946. [Class 29] [Also in Group XXVII] A non-condensing air &c. compression and expansion system for heating or cooling is driven by an internal combustion engine 1 having free pistons 2, 3 one of which is directly connected with the compressor piston 6 in a cylinder 7 from which the compressed air passes through a cooler 14 to an expansion cylinder 15 the piston 16 of which is connected to the compressor piston. A separate compressor-expansion group may be fed by the compressor 6. A turbine 20 driven by the exhaust from the internal combustion engine drives a blower 18 which draws in air and supplies it by pipe 21 to the compressor 7. After expansion in the cylinder 15 the air expands further in a turbine 19 on the same shaft as the turbine 20 and blower 18, and passes to the space &c. to be cooled. Air for supercharging the internal combustion engine 1 may be taken from the compressor 7 by a pipe 25 or from the blower 18 by a pipe 24. A rotary or oscillating, movement may be imparted to the pistons. The heat of the compressed air may be utilized for drying. Specification 600,554 is referred to.
