Abstract
Internal combustion engine comprises a crankcase (1) containing a rotating crankshaft connected to a connecting rod supporting a piston. The piston moves in a cylinder covered by a cylinder head to form a working chamber. Fresh gas from a fresh gas line is fed to the working chamber via gas exchange devices and exhaust gas is removed via an exhaust gas line. The exhaust gas line and fresh gas line are joined together via an air-cooled return line. The return line designed in a partial region as an air/exhaust gas heat exchanger (14) is arranged directly on the engine. An existing cooling air stream of the engine flows through the air/exhaust gas heat exchanger. Preferred Features: The cooling air stream is conveyed by a cooling air fan (8) integrated in the engine. The air/exhaust gas heat exchanger is arranged in the exhaust gas stream of the engine cooling system.
