Abstract

1318800 Charging I. C. engines SOC ANON DE VEHICULES INDUSTRIELS ET EQUIPEMENTS MECANIQUES 22 Oct 1970 [31 Oct 1969] 50303/70 Heading F1B A diesel engine has an exhaust driven turbine 3 driving a compressor 4 which supplies air to a compressor 10 driven from the engine crankshaft 13 at a speed ratio which increases as the pressure delivered by compressor 4 diminishes. A heat exchanger 6 between the compressors allows heat exchange with the engine cooling liquid, and heat and sound insulation material is provided where shown by hatching. Variation of the speed ratio is obtained by an expansible pulley 12 with displaceable flanges, the position of the pulley being varied according to the pressure in cylinder 16. A branch circuit recycles liquid fuel from the inlet manifold to a point upstream of compressor 10 and a partition (20) Fig. 3 (not shown) in the manifold assists in separating the liquid fuel.
