Abstract
628,012. Rolling annular bodies. LOEWY ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., HENSCHKER, E. R., and SALTER, F. S. Feb. 24, 1947, No. 5311. [Class 83 (iv)] In a ring rolling mill having vertical internal and external rolls, one of the bearings for the internal roll is mounted in a movable member capable of effecting two separate movements, one in the direction of the roll axis for stripping the bearing and one away from the roll axis for clearing the space above the roll. The barrel portion 8 of the internal roll, detachably connected to a spindle portion 14 by a bolt 31, is supported at its upper end by a rotary bearing member 11 and an outer bearing member 12 mounted in a cantilever arm 5, the member 11 being connected for rotary movement with the barrel 8 by means of a cup 7 pressed against the upper end of the barrel 8 by a spring 9 in a cap 10 screwed to the member 11. The arm 5 extends into a vertical column 4 which may be moved vertically by a ram and cylinder 2, 3, and rotatably mounted so that the arm 5 with the bearing may be moved aside after it has been stripped from the barrel 8. A pin 22 supports the free end of the arm 5 in the operating position. Shims 26, 27 are provided for raising the arm 5 when blanks of greater height than normal are to be rolled.
