Abstract
622,432. Rotary pumps. MATTHEWS, S. E. (Lester Engineering Co.). March 24, 1947, No. 7987. [Class 110(ii)] A pump of the geared-vane type has piston members 21, 25 attached to relatively moving parts so arranged that a piston 21 moves faster in mid-stroke between a pair of outer pistons 25, than when approaching either of the latter, The body 35 may be adjusted on sliding surfaces 36 37 to vary the distance between the centres of the two rotors carrying the pistons 21, 25 to give variable delivery for the pump. Inlet and outlet manifolds 9, 10 communicate by way of ports 52, 53 with annular ducts 50, 51 leading to ports which allow fluid passage to or from the working chambers formed between relatively-moving pistons. The latter ports are periodically cut off through co-action between skirts attached to pistons 21 and the inner surfaces of pistons 25, (see Fig. 3). A drive shaft 16 is supported on a taper bearing 15 and a ball bearing 17 and drives a flange plate 19 to which the inner rotor carrying piston 21 is attached. Screws 22 secure together the opposite flanges 19 and 23 the latter having an extending hub 20<1> whose left-hand end is journalled at 47 to the inner conical bearing on the fixed shaft 5 and an outer bearing 49. The outer rotor 24 is mounted on the inner rotor 20. A third rotatable member comprises rings 26, 27 joined by spacer-members 28 and screws 29, with hubs 30, 31 journalled by bearings 32, 33 in the movable housing 35. Links 42, 46 are pivoted by wrist pins 43, 45 to radial portions 23, 24<1> to connect the rotors 20, 24 with the rings 26, 27 through further wrist pins 44, 48.
