Abstract

721,853. Rotary pump. ROGERS, G. Sept. 9, 1953 [Sept. 30, 1952], No. 24402/52. Class 110 (2). In a rotor 11, placed concentrically within a casing 10, curved vanes 18 act as pistons within cylinder slots 17 to pump fluid from an inlet port 13 to a delivery 14. The rotor is driven by a shaft 12 through a rotor end-flange. Inlet and outlet ports have extension channels 13a, 14a. The vane movements are controlled by cross-pins 20 within a ring 19, the curved, inner ends of the vanes engaging with a sleeve 21a carried, through ball or roller bearings, by a stub-shaft 21. The latter is mounted on a lever 22, rockable about a pivot shaft 23, to vary the eccentricity of the sleeve 21a, and thus the capacity of the pump. Each vane is contained within a circle 27, the centre of which is placed within the thickness of a vane. Seals 29, 30 are provided in the casing bore. The pump may be used in conjunction with a rotary motor of the type described in Specification 580,098 to form a variable ratio hydraulic transmission system. By using the lever 22, the pump may be made reversible. With the lever in a central position, no fluid passes through the pump.
