Abstract
744,446. Rotary engines and pumps. EICKMANN, K. Nov. 25, 1953, No. 32686/53 Class 110(2) A rotary machine, Fig. 1, comprises a pump A and a driving motor B which are journalled in ball or roller bearings 14, 15, 16 and 17, 18, 19 respectively in a casing 10. 11, 12, 13. Between the members A, B is fixed an intermediate member 20 having liquid passages 21, 22 and against which rotary members 23, 24 abut. The pump or motor comprises a rotor 26 which is mounted on a shaft 25, has end walls 27, 28 and 29, 30 and is closed by a ring 34 eccentrically adjustable relatively thereto. The vanes 33 slide in grooves 31 in the cylinder 26 and slots 32 in the discs 28, 30. Variation is effected by a ring 37 carrying the roller bearings 35 for the ring 34; the ring 37 having a control rod 38 and being adapted to slide between guides 39, 40 (see Fig. 2, not shown). The vanes of the pump are urged outwardly by liquid fed through a passage 41 into the slots 31 whilst the vanes of the motor are provided with spring rings 42, 43. The pumping chambers 36 are connected through bores 44, 45 to oil passages 21, 22. When the pump is rotated by an external source of power it draws liquid through a suction passage 48 and discharges it through the passage 21 into the motor B to energize same; the liquid leaving the motor being returned to the suction side of the pump through the passage 22. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown), the vanes 33 of the pump slide with clearance in communication with the pressure liquid; the vanes being urged against one wall of the rotor 26 and against the ring 34. In a further modification, see Fig. 4, the rotor of the pump is composed of side walls 127, 128, 129, 130 which are secured to the shaft 125 by screws 151; the cylinder 126 and 126a of the pump and motor units respectively being rotatably mounted on an axle 120 fixed in a portion 113 of the casing 101. The members 128, 130 are formed separately from or integral with the member 126 as desired and the ring 134 may be composed of two dish-shaped ports. The vanes 133 slide in slots 132, 132a in the members 128, 130 and in slots 131 in the cylinder. The outer and inner ends of the slots 132 and 132a are in communication with annular passages 157, 158 respectively which are in turn interconnected by bores 159. Pressure medium is supplied to the chambers 136 through the hollow axle 120 and through passages 121 or 122 depending on the direction of rotation of the shaft 125 and is fed into the slots 131. The passages 121, 122 are interconnected by a passage 160 controlled by a reversing valve 161 actuated by pressure medium fed through ports 162 or 163. The inner ends of the slots 131 are fed with pressure medium through passage 165, 166 and 166a. In a further modification. see Fig. 6, the vanes 233 are provided with slide shoes 272 which co-act with a ring 234 which is adjusted by a ring 237 through rollers 273. The supply and escape of the pressure medium takes place through openings 262, 263. The slots 231 communicate through bore holes 266<SP>1</SP> with a groove 266 which is controlled by a reversing valve as in the modification described with reference to Fig. 4. In a final modification, Fig. 7, the rotor 320 is formed integral with its driving shaft and has slots 331 for the vanes 333; the rotor being adjustable in the transverse direction relative to its casing. The vanes are provided with shoes 362 for the attachment of which (Figs. 8 and 9, not shown) should be referred to. The rotary machine may comprise a fluid-driven engine or a rotary pump, compressor or motor.
