Abstract
Aqueous suspensions of magnesia are stabilized by the addition of a small quantity of phosphoric acid, preferably orthophosphoric acid. Metaphosphoric and pyrophosphoric acids are also mentioned. The magnesia may be obtained by the action of lime water or caustic soda solution on sea water. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the treatment of sea water &c., prior to magnesia precipitation, with an acid, followed by alkation to eliminate carbonates, sulphuric acid producing a dense precipitate, phosphoric acid a voluminous one, with hydrochloric acid intermediate. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
