559,893. Calcium pantothenate. ROCHE PRODUCTS, Ltd. Aug. 31, 1942, No. 12256 Convention date, Sept. 1, 1941. [Class 2 (iii)] Pure crystalline calcium d-pantothenate is obtained by treating an alcoholic solution of sodium panthothenate with an organic acid whose sodium salt is insoluble in water, removing the precipitated sodium salt, diluting the alcoholic solution of pantothenic acid with water, and converting the free acid into the calcium salt. The sodium salt used as the parent material may be preformed or there may be used the solution which is obtained by condensing #-alanine and d (-) -α-hydroxy-##- dimethyl-γ-butyrolactone in the presence of sodium alcoholate. Two examples are given, in both of which the organic acid used is oxalic acid.
