Abstract

Sodium pantothenate is converted into the calcium salt by reaction with calcium chloride dissolved in an alcohol. In examples, alcoholic calcium chloride is added to a solution of sodium pantothenate in a mixture of methyl and ethyl alcohol and also to the crude product obtained from b -alanine, sodium ethylate and d(-)-a -hydroxy-b : b -dimethyl-g -butyrolacetone. Crystalline calcium pantothenate is obtained from the filtrate after removal of the precipitated sodium chloride. Specification 552,036 is referred to.
