Abstract
Alkali metal and alkaline-earth metal salts of chlorethane sulphonic acid are obtained by reacting dichlorethane with an aqueous solution of the corresponding salt of sulphurous acid without the presence of an additional solvent. The reaction may be carried out at atmospheric pressure by boiling under reflux. An example is given wherein the reaction is carried out under pressure Specification 360,558 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises p also the manufacture of salts of other halogen sulphonic acids of the aliphatic and aromatic series. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
