Abstract

For the production of hydracrylic acid by the action of an acid on a metal hydracrylate (which is preferably the alkali hydracrylate made by the alkaline hydrolysis of ethylene cyanhydrin) the water present is preferably first removed by evaporation under low pressure, and the slurry of precipitated salt and hydracrylic acid filtered, the cake of salt being then washed with an aqueous solution of an alkali or alkaline earth metal to extract the hydracrylic acid therefrom, the extract being then used in preparing the alkaline solution for the hydrolysis of more cyanhydrin.
