Abstract
257,815. Bloxam, A. G., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Jan. 28, 1926. 2-oxynaphthalene-6-carboxylic acid is obtained by the action of carbon dioxide on the potassium salt of #-naphthol at a high temperature, preferably above 170‹ C. In an example potassium- #-naphtholate is heated with carbon dioxide in an autoclave for 8 hours at 170-230‹ C. After cooling and liberating the acids, the 2 : 6-acid is separated from the 2 : 3-acid, produced at the same time, by making use of its greater solubility in water.
