Abstract
616,935. Rotary filters. ELLILA, K. L. Sept. 23, 1946. No. 28472. Convention date, April 25. [Class 46] In inward-flow rotary drum filtering apparatus of the kind in which a pulp iayer is continually applied to and removed from the drum, the pulp layer, produced from suspended wood, chemical, or other pulp on an endless wire gauze or a collecting roller, is applied in such a manner that the exterior skin of the pulp layer as produced forms the interior skin of the layer on the drum. The pulp fibres thus lie flat along the surface of the drum. As shown, liquid to be filtered enters the vat 2 by inlet 3, and pulp suspension by inlet 5 into the trough 4, from which trough the pulp passes to a collecting roller 6, adjustable in height by a lever 6a. The roller 6 rests on the periphery of the filter drum 1 by which it is rotated, and delivers the pulp layer to the drum 1. The pulp layer is removed on the opposite side of the drum by the knife 8. An intermediate filter, formed of wire gauze or felt band, as wide as the drum 1 but longer than its circumference, may be wound on the roller 11, and one end fed under the pulp layer, so that the drum, on rotation, drags the band with it. When the end appears from under the pulp layer on the other side of the drum, it is placed to underlap the other end of the band so that the band functions as an endless one. It may be removed by rolling up onto roller 12. Instead of the collecting roller 6, an endless band or gauze may be used. The intermediate filtering band may also be an endless band guided over one or more rollers.
