Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the rate of dehydration, and make the stripping and removal of dehydrated cake from filter cloths easy by using the specific filter cloths of different characteristics in the dehydration treatment of activated sludge by compressing the same between two sheets of the continuous filter cloths.
CONSTITUTION: An upper filter cloth 3 and a lower filter cloth 4 as well as a backup belt 5 of good water permeability are superposed, and hydrous sludge is supplied between the upper, lower filter cloths 3, 4 from a supply part 6, and is sandwiched and pressed repetitively between a rotary drum 1 and plural pressure rollers 2 disposed on the outside circumference thereof, whereby the water content of the hydrous sludge is removed. In this case, a filter cloth made by binding a web consisting of polyamide fibers of ≤6 deniers to a base fabric made of synthetic fibers or natural fibers by means of needle punching is used for the upper filter cloth 3, and a filter cloth of relatively smooth surfaces woven with synthetic fibers is used for the lower filter cloth 4. Dehydrated cake is stripped easily with a scraper 7 in spite of increasing the rate of dehydration to 60W70%.
