A wet press felt for use on paper- making machines comprises a conventional felt fabric having a special finish or surface (20) for receiving the paper sheet. This special sheet surface (20) comprises a layer of a substantially uniform, non-woven, non-parallel, continuous synthetic organic filaments which are substantially round in cross- section and randomly distributed throughout the layer. <IMAGE>
