Abstract

PURPOSE: To raise both the amount of sludge to be treated per unit of time and the recovery rate of sludge cake by improving the dehydrating capability of a dense and smooth filter cloth, even when it is used, by covering the surface of one roll of press rolls with a felt of a proper thickness.
CONSTITUTION: A bottom roll 2 is covered with a thick felt 1 to make nip cloth larger, whereby permitting the thick felt to secure a water way through which water from the dehydration of sludge 5 is received and then flowed toward the nip inlet, the dehydrating efficiency of sludge 5 to be raised, the filter cloth 4 to run with high speeds, and the amount of sludge treated per unit of time to be increased. The optimum thickness and density of the felt 1 to be covered on the bottom roll 2 are 5W20mm and 0.2W0.45g/cm2, respectively, with a weight per unit area of 1,000W9,000g/m2. The felt is usually formed into a cylinder and then fitted into the bottom roll 2 for covering.
