Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the cost of the treatment of sludge by a continuous method in a lesser floor space by a method in which sludge is charged on an endless filter cloth, the filter cloth is folded to press the sludge for dehydration, and the sludge is dried by utilizing solar energy.
CONSTITUTION: Sludge charged on the starting or ending portion of the upper moving path of a filter cloth 1 is first filtered and dehydrated by the suctional action of a sucker 9, and the filter cloth 1 is folded into a sandwiched form and then pressed and dehydrated by press rolls 4a, 4b, 5a, and 5b in a pressing zone 3, where the separation of water can be made easier and also the leak of sludge can be lessened because the folded filter cloth is vertically erected. The pressed and dehydrated sludge is heated and dried by irradiation of the sunshine regulated by turning a solar energy focusing device 8 toward the sun and then removed from the filter cloth 1 by a scraping plate 10. The filter cloth 1 is cleaned by cleaners 11 and 12 to remove cloggings.
