Abstract

PURPOSE: To make the removal of restrained water possible and improve dehydration effect by pressurizing the flocculated sludge after separation of free water between two sheets of filter cloths to break sludge particles and elute restrained water then sucking the eluted water further.
CONSTITUTION: The sludge to be dehydrated is mixed with a polymer flocculant in a mixer 6 and is thereby flocculated. The flocculated sludge is placed on an upper filter cloth 1, and is removed of free water by the 1st decompressing drum 3. Thence, the flocculated sludge is sandwiched between the cloth 1 and a lower filter cloth 2, after which pressurizing force and shearing force are applied upon the flocculated sludge by means of pressurizing rollers 5 disposed in a number of steps alternately above and below in the transverse direction. Thereby, the flocculated sludge particles are broken and the restrained water captured therein elutes. This eluted water is sucked and separated by the 2nd decompressing drum 4 provided at the terminal of a dehydrator. The filter cloths of the dehydrator are run by a driver 7, and the speeds thereof are variable to about 0.2W2.0m/min.
