Abstract
816,368. Rotary drum filters. OLIN MATHIESON CHEMICAL CORPORATION. Dec. 31, 1957 [Jan. 8, 1957], No. 40432/57. Class 46. In a rotary drum filter a top layer of the filter cake is removed from the drum and the remaining cake is removed and formed into a slurry, separate from the feed slurry, and is applied to the filter cake formed on the filter cloth emerging from the feed slurry. A filter cloth 25 on a rotating drum 23 picks up a layer of cake 39 from the feed slurry pan 20 over the sector A. While travelling through sector B a flinger 15 sprays a layer of reclaim slurry from the trough 14, fed from the pan 12, forming a layer of cake 42, on the cake 39. Over the sector C sprays 31 wash the filter cake and over the sector D the top layer of cake is first removed by an adjustable knife 33 and falls down a shoot 37 after which the remaining filter cake is removed by the combined effect of air pressure and sprays 32 forming the reclaim slurry in pan 12, a seal 20a preventing the reclaim slurry from entering the feed slurry pan 20. The knife 33 may be of any form provided with an adjustment and the flinger 15 may be of any suitable spray device. The reclaim slurry may be formed in a tank separate from the filter device and being fed to the trough 14 by a pump. Both pans 10 and 12 are provided with stirrers 26. The method of the invention is applicable to any continuous method of vacuum or pressure filtration such as disc type filters or endless belt filters.
