Abstract

1380591 Moving band filter T SEKI 10 Aug 1972 [13 Aug 1971] 37434/72 Heading B1D [Also in Division C1] . Apparatus for the continuous dehydration of sludge comprises a liquid reservoir for receiving sludge, a filtering zone connected to the reservoir, in which zone vacuum suction filtration is to be effected, and an endless filter cloth with means to forward it to the liquid reservoir and filtering zone. The reservoir is provided with a bottom portion inclined to the horizontal and extending to the surface level of the reservoir at least at the portion thereof where the liquid reservoir is connected to the filtering zone. The filtering zone is constructed as a vacuum chamber provided with roll bars at the upper portion thereof, the endless filter cloth being so disposed that it is at first introduced into the deepest portion of the liquid reservoir while being kept in contact with the bottom portion along a length sufficient for a precoat layer to lie on the surface thereof during use, and is then introduced on the roll bars of the filtering zone. The reservoir is pivotally connected to the filtering zone, means being provided for adjusting the inclination to the horizontal of the bottom of the liquid reservoir. A suitable filtering zone, B, is shown in Fig. 3A and in operation, continuous filter cloth C passes up through a sludge-containing liquid in reservoir A and into zone B. In this zone, the cloth is carried over roll bars 19 and is subject to vacuum filtration. Dewatered sludge is then removed from the cloth, the cloth being subsequently washed and passed back to reservoir A.
