Abstract

733,689. Filtering liquids. PUROLATOR PRODUCTS, Inc. May 14, 1952 [June 14, 1951], No. 12204/52. Class 46. [Also in Groups VIII and XXVIII] A filter comprises a layer of filter paper untreated with resin backed up at least in the downstream side by a layer of resin-treated filter paper. As shown an inward flow filter comprises an annulus 10 of'pleated laminated filter paper, the laminations 16, 17, 18, at least one of which is untreated with resin, being of increasing porosity and supported by a relatively stiff lamination 19 treated with resin and having apertures 20 through which filtrate passes to the interior of the annulus. The free edges of the la minaticns are secured together and their u pper and lower ends are covered by caps 11, 12 In a modification the annulus is surrounded by cotton wool which is contained by an outer perforated cylinder. The direction of flow may be reversed, in which case the laminations are arranged with the most porous on the inside. Decrease of porosity of the laminations is effected by treatment with a phenolic resin as described in Specification 508,514. Instead of laminated paper a single sheet varying in porosity from one side to the other may be used. Specification 508,514 is referred to.
