Abstract
940,201. Filters. PREPARATION INDUSTRIELLE DES COMBUSTIBLES. March 14, 1960 [March 24, 1959], No. 8939/60. Heading B1D. In Fig. 1 liquid to be filtered is fed through a valve 1 to a casing 2, having tubular baffles 2a, 2b, until the level of liquid reaches the top of the inner baffle, or some lower level depending on the thickness of filter cake desired. An endless filter cloth 6 is then squeezed between casing 2 and frames 3 and 4 as shown by a pressure device 5. Compressed air is then supplied through valve 1, the pressure increasing progressively until the pulp has been evenly distributed, and thereafter remaining at the maximum. Filtrate from the upper run backwashes the lower run of filter cloth. The filter cake 9 on the upper run is eventually dried by passage therethrough of compressed air. Then the pressure device 5 is released, permitting frames 3 and 4 to fall on their respective supports 11, 20, and the driving drum 7 is set in rotation. A scraper or like device 8 serves to loosen the cake if necessary. In Fig. 2 the frame 3 is dispensed with and the lower frame 4 is rigidly mounted. Sealing devices 17 are provided which may be expanded by pneumatic pressure or other means. In Fig. 3 a continuous filter cloth 23 passes twice through each of a number of superposed filter chambers 22. Pulp to be filtered is supplied to the chambers simultaneously by introduction of compressed air to a previously-filled tank (not shown) connected to the chambers.
