Abstract
639,919. Compound paper for cigarette wads &c. BUNZL, H. March 25, 1948, No. 8884. [Class 96] [Also in Group VI] In a machine, in which corrugated sheet material, such as crepe paper, is interleaved with absorbent material, such as cellulose fibres, and wound on a drum 18 for transport to a cigarette filter wad machine, the absorbent material is brought into engagement with the sheet material while in a loosely-coherent state. As shown, bleached cotton, cotton waste or disintegrated cellulose is fed from a carding cylinder 11 to a doffing cylinder 12 and removed by a picker 13, the loose web 10 being laid on a crepe paper web 14 moving over a drum 17 to the winding drum 18 mounted on sliding bearings. A second roll 20 of crepe paper may be provided. The drum 17 is driven from the cylinder 12 through a clutch and variable speed gearing comprising belts and conical pulleys. The crepe paper may be fed over a further roller just below the picker 13. In a modification the absorbent material is fed from a chamber, where it is broken up by toothed rollers, on to the lower face of a sieve, subjected to suction on its upper face and picked off by a couch roll over which the crepe paper is passed.
