Abstract
109,326. Barlow, T. P., and Barlow, R. G. Sept. 29, 1916. Wadding.-Surgical dressings consist of a mixture of spagnum mess with absorbent cotton formed into a fleece or sheet and enclosed, if desired, between sheets of gauze. The mixture is treated by a scutcher or opener to form it into a lap, and is finally treated by means of a modified form of the machine described in Specification 916/15, [Class 120 (i), Spinning, Preparation &c. for]. The mixture from the lap d is fed to a licker-in h having a hinged cover and an under tray i connected to an air trunk k. The fibres are drawn through the trunk k and collected on a rotary perforated cylinder m by a fan s communicating with the interior of the cylinder. A weighted semicylindrical damper o is mounted loosely on the axis q of the cylinder. The fibre is consolidated by a roller t, passed between weighted calendar rollers 2, and delivered to a travelling lattice 3. Gauze sheets may be fed from rollers 4, 5. In a modification, the-mixed fibres are fed to the machine from a travelling lattice 6 instead of being first formed into a lap.
