Abstract
904,826. Paper containing synthetic fibres. DEXTER & SONS Inc., C. H. Nov. 7, 1960 [Nov. 6, 1959; Oct. 18, 1960], No. 38189/60. Class 96. Heat-sealing paper which is highly porous and suitable for making tea-bags, is formed from non-thermoplastic fibres, e.g. of unbeaten manila or Indian hemp, wood, caroa, jute, rayon, acetate, nylon, or glass, which may be predominantly at one surface, and, e.g., 15 to 20% of fibres of a copolymer of vinyl acetate and vinyl chloride which have been stretched and thereby straightened, and may be # to # inch long and which may be predominantly at the other surface of the paper, the two kinds intermingling in the depth of the paper. As illustrated, copolymer filaments 1 are drawn through the heated chamber 4 of the extrusion apparatus, collected, and stretched between rolls 6, 8 cut at 10, e.g. using water for cooling and lubrication, dried at 12, mixed with water at 14, pulled apart where adhered together, e.g. in a Jordan engine 16, fed as a dilute slurry to a head-box and, together with the non-thermoplastic fibres, formed as a web on a screen 20. Melamine may be included for wet-strength. Specification 621,823 is referred to.
