621,823. Forming composite paper. TRIGGS, W. W. (Dexter & Sons, Inc., C. H.). Dec. 9, 1946, No. 36359. [Class 96] A dilute suspension of long fibres, e.g. manila hemp, caroa, jute or Indian hemp, or viscose filaments, flows at 6 into a head-box 4 of a longitudinal wire-cloth paper-making machine and the fibres &c. are partly deposited on the wire-cloth 1, at 14; a further dilute suspension, of thermoplastic filaments, e.g. of a vinyl acetate-vinyl chloride copolymer, or cellulose acetate, e.g. 1/16 to # inch long, is introduced at 11 so that the two suspensions intermingle to form an upper ply of mixed long fibres and thermoplastic filaments, the latter greatly predominating at the top of the composite web. A wetting agent, or caustic soda treatment, reduces the liability of the filaments to entrain air. A thin, highly porous paper is formed. Specification 449,118 is referred to.
