Abstract

542,773. Sewing thread. FINLAYSON, D. July 26, 1940, No. 12185. [Class 120 (iii)] A sewing thread comprises a cabled assembly of cellulose acetate or other cellulose ester threads that have been stretched and saponified. The singles threads may be shrunk before saponification and may be formed from continuous filaments, staple fibre or from continuous filaments that have been broken and given the appearance of a staple fibre yarn. The singles threads may be sized or treated with an hygroscopic agent, with or without size, and the threads may be doubled in a wet or dry frame. The threads may be stretched by processes of the character described in Specifications 438,587, 438,656 and 443,707, [all in Group IV], and may be shrunk by the process described in Specification 389,823, [Group IV]. Examples of twists and thread denier are given.
