Abstract
471,061. Yarns. DREYFUS, H. Feb. 21, 1936, No. 5277. [Class 120 (iii)] A composite yarn comprises a yarn of filaments or fibres to which crimps have been imparted doubled with at least one yarn of uncrimped filaments or fibres, so that the crimped yarn forms a spiral around the uncrimped yarn; the yarns may be artificial yarns of different characteristics, the crimped or imcrimped component of the yarn or both components may comprise continuous filaments of cellulose acetate, the uncrimped component may have been stretched prior to the doubling operation, e.g. in the manner described in Specification 370,430, and the doubled components may be bound together by a binding yarn, which may comprise uncrimped continuous filaments and which may be doubled with the doubled yarns in the same direction as that in which those yarns are doubled together. The stretched yarns may be subjected to a subsequent saponifying operation, e.g. as described in Specifications 402,141, 417,220, and 429,103, [all in Group IV], or to a subsequent shrinking operation, e.g. as described in Specification 389,823, [Group IV], or to both the saponifying and shrinking operations. The crimp may be applied to the component filaments or fibres of the crimped yarn by rollers and set by treatment with steam, by the method described in Specifications 424,880 and 442,073, by treatment with hot aqueous liquors when the yarns are of cellulose acetate and similar substances and particularly when the filaments are of substantially flat cross-section and the substance thereof contains para-dichlorbenzene or other plasticizing agent as described in Specification 459,781, or by any combination of these processes as described in Specifications 474,401 and 474,402. The crimp may be fixed in the materials by the process described in Specification 455,021 and the crimped filaments may be used as a yarn or cut into staple fibres which are spun alone or mixed with other filaments or fibres.
