Abstract

597,715. Yarns. COURTAULDS, Ltd., and EYRE, N.E.L. Aug. 24, 1945, No. 21709. [Class 120 (iii) ] [Also in Group VIII] To prevent snarling when using a highly twisted thread of 35 or more turns per inch in the manufacture of a stocking the thread is combined with a transitory yarn which is removed after the completion of the stocking. As described, a highly twisted viscose rayon thread is combined with a low twist yarn of calcium alginate or cellulose acetate by twisting in a direction opposite to the twist of the rayon thread so as to form a stocking yarn with a twist slightly lower than the highly twisted yarn. On completion of the stocking the transitory yarn is removed by scouring the stocking with a dilute soap solution in the case of calcium alginate or by treatment with a solvent such as acetone in the case of cellulose acetate.
