Abstract

511,408. Elastic thread. PICKLES, R., and PICKLES, J. Feb. 11, 1939, No. 4517. [Class 120 (iii)] An elastic thread is formed by doubling together two oppositely twisted threads each comprising one or more rubber filaments combined with one or more non-extensible yarns and then wrapping or covering the doubled thread with one or more layers of a textile yarn by a braiding or wrapping operation. The individual threads which, oppositely twisted, are employed in the doubling operation may be produced as described in Specification 443,188 or by a covering process in which the rubber filament is passed through the hollow spindle of a bobbin carrying a non-extensible yarn, the combined filament and yarn being then passed through a second spindle carrying a bobbin of unextensible yarn. The thread may be treated, preparatory to weaving or knitting, by the process described in Specification 497,518. Specifications 448,071 and 459,508 also are referred to.
