Abstract

One or more layers of creped cellulose, such as crepe paper containing fibres not exceeding 2 mm in length are needled to one or more layers of fibrous fleece formed from fibres at least 3 mm in length. The fleece may be consolidated or partially consolidated before or after needling. In examples (a) a fleece of textile fibrous consolidated on one side is needled to creped cellulose wadding so that the fleece fibres are drawn through the wadding; (b) a loose fibrous fleece needled to cellulose crepe give a baize surface on the textile side and a pile surface on the cellulose crepe; (c) a sheet of cellulose crepe is sandwiched between and needled to outer plies of fibrous fleece.
